Marathon update: Running in the rain!

So the past couple of weeks have been challenging, especially on the weather front! With storm Doris and Ewan to contend with running has been much, much harder. The mid-week runs are now up to 8 miles and the weekend runs are getting ever longer with last weekend reaching 15 miles (the furthest I have ever run!). On the plus side I have had some beautiful parts of the country to run around, the Scottish borders being a highlight. I also made a trip to Whitley Bay to watch my friends children run a Park Run (pics above). It was a gorgeous day and it was great to be cheering on the runners rather than being one of them for once. I guess I got a glimpse of what my friends and family will be up to on race day! I also enjoyed a recovery walk on the beach in the sunshine (rare at this time of year) which was beautiful!

I am pleased to still be fit and can say I am currently injury free thanks to the continued efforts of my colleagues in keeping me going. I have suffered a little with tight calves and knees post the long runs but nothing some stretching and resting hasn’t fixed. Nutrition wise I have been experimenting with some different energy gels and will let you know my favourite. I also bought some new comfy cushioned socks which felt great for my long runs!
